Q.
What are the benefits of having water features
and plantings?
Water features help to
stimulate the Visual, Kinesthetic and Auditory
senses. Adding a water feature to any space
will introduce the visually pleasing effect
of the natural element of moving water.
Moving water generates negative ions.
These negative ions will circulate throughout
the room and collect pollutants from the
air, cleansing the room and providing a
refreshing environment.
The sounds of the trickling water also
help to provide a relaxing and soothing
environment, relieving the effects of stress
and increasing productivity.
Studies by scientists at NASA have proven
that tropical plantings cleanse toxins
from the air of interior environments.
More specifically, many toxins are used
in the manufacturing process of products
such as carpeting, drapes, paints, stains,
furniture and other interior finishes.
These products will off- gas chemicals
such as benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene
to name just a few into the interior space
for extended periods. This is one of the
causes of “sick building syndrome”.
The natural growth process of plants will
help to eliminate these toxins from the
air.
Q.
How are the water features designed to work?
The water features we
design are self-contained units. Water
is drawn by a pump from the base pool and
is then distributed to the top of the feature.
The water flows back to the base pool and
continues to re-circulate.
Q.
How do I keep my water feature clean?
Your waterfall will require
periodic cleaning of the pool basin and
feature face. The frequency will depend
on the quality of the water used and the
size of the feature. Generally speaking,
the more pure the water, the less frequent
the cleaning.
We also can provide comprehensive filtration
systems for larger units.
Q.
What type of water should I use?
TropicsNorth recommends
the use of distilled, filtered, bottled
or Reverse Osmosis water supply. If regular
tap water is used, calcium and other minerals
will collect and solidify over time and
leave deposits on the water feature and
in the mechanical equipment. More frequent
cleaning will be required and the life
of the pumps may be shortened.
Q.
How much water will it use?
Each feature will vary
based on size and location. We can provide
automated systems designed with an auto-fill
and overflow assembly. This will ensure
automated filling and draining as necessary.
Q.
What if I don’t have a water supply
line or drain?
Once the main reservoir
is filled up, you will need to add water
as it evaporates periodically. Filling
with small amounts every few days is recommended
over filling once every week or so. There
is a risk of damage from overheating if
the pump or underwater lights are not constantly
submersed at all times.
Q.
What type of electrical services is required?
Standard voltage service
is all that is required. The feature is
plugged in, filled up and turned on. It
is highly recommended plugging the feature
into a standard GFCI outlet (ground fault
circuit interrupted).
Q.
How much do they cost?
Our ready-to-install lines
are a standard price. All custom designed
products will be individually priced based
on the size and complexity of the design
and installation.
Q.
Do you offer a warranty?
We offer a one-year warranty on all water
features and up to 3 years on pump equipment.
